<p>Maude Hicks Baytes, 96, a resident of Inverness Community of Union Springs, AL, went to heaven on Saturday, January 22, 2022. She formerly lived in Roebuck, SC.</p> <p>A native of Portsmouth, VA, she was born the daughter of the late James Elgee Hicks and Maude White Hicks. She was the wife of the late William Burton Baytes, Sr.</p> <p>She worked as a seamstress in the dry-cleaning business for many years. She was a homemaker who loved her family and loved to cook and garden. She loved to feed neighborhood cats. She especially loved her dog, Rocky.</p> <p>Left to cherish fond memories are sons, William Burton Baytes, Jr. (Vivian) of Graham, AL, James Robert Baytes (Sharon) of Spartanburg, SC; daughters, Elaine Taylor (Ronald) of Spartanburg, SC, Ethel Cannon of Union Springs, AL; 13 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; 20 great-great-grandchildren.</p> <p>Visitation will be 11:00 AM - 12:00 Noon Thursday, January 27, 2022 at Floyd&#39;s North Church Street Chapel, 235 N. Church Street, Spartanburg, SC 29306. Graveside service will be 1:00 PM in Westwood Memorial Gardens, 6101 Reidville Road, Moore, SC 29369.</p> <p>Memorials may be made to Compassus Hospice, 121 Scouting Circle, Troy, AL 36081 or Meals on Wheels.</p> <p>Arrangements are being made by Gray Funeral Home of Union Springs, AL and Floyd&#39;s North Church Street Chapel in Spartanburg, SC.</p> <p>Guests are requested to wear masks.</p>
