Obituary

Robert Paul Rives

October 12, 1957 – January 18, 2022

Robert Paul Rives was born October 12, 1957 in Vallejo, CA to Jesus Rives and Josie Meza. He would be one of ten children between the two parents. When Robert was in elementary school, his mother Josie and stepfather Joe Padilla, moved the family to Richmond. Robert would attend Lincoln and then Peres Elementary, then Downer Junior High and finally Richmond and Gompers High Schools.

At the age of 17, it was agreed that the Military was the best avenue for Robert to pursue. A decision that proved well for the young man, who enlisted in the US Army, and then continued on with the Army National Guard. While serving his country and career, Robert would marry Dauphine Mackey and welcome a son and daughter, Michael and Inez.  After 22 years of service in the Military,  Robert couldn’t sit still, he went on working and doing what he loved most – cooking. Robert continued to serve, as he held culinary positions with Meals on Wheels, OICW in Menlo Park, and a Convent in Belmont.

Two of Robert’s greatest passions was his raising and training of pigeons and of course cooking. He enjoyed entertaining his family and friends, and loved to show off his culinary skills whenever he could. He also enjoyed a nice weekend of Garage Sale Hunting, listening to music and was well known as a Lowrider enthusiast.

Robert was a good person with a huge heart, and although he was known by some as a serious person  (a trait attributed to his service in the Army), he was also known as a jokester, who loved to make you laugh.  Above all, Robert believed in family, and loved spending time with them, especially his grandkids – “He was a really good Papa”. Robert also had his love for his animals, his two dogs; Bowe and Loosey (“with two O’s”) were his babies and he treasured their companionship.

On January 18, 2022 at the age of 64, Robert passed away, surrounded by his family.  His parents, Jesus Rives, Josie and Joe Padilla; siblings, Theresea Rives, Susan Padilla-Lovato, Felipe Padilla, Joe Padilla, Jr. and son, Alex Rives preceded him in death.

To carry on his legacy, Robert leaves his children, Robert Alvarez, Michael Rives, and Inez Rives; Siblings, Tony Rives, Josie Padilla, Antonia Heinrich, Juan Rives, and Victor Rives; grandchildren, Elena Alvarez, Alex Alvarez,  Addaleyna Alvarez, Leilani Rives, Faith Halloway, Michael Rives II, and Izenia Taylor; stepmother, Eva Rives; good friends, Janet Shaw and Jamie Signorello; as well as a host of nieces, nephews and other family members.

Until We meet again …. Ride Low & Slow, and Don’t touch My Remote.
