Edward Paul Battle

Age 98, of Bethel Park, passed away peacefully on Sunday, January 23, 2022. Ed was born on September 12, 1923, in Pittsburgh, a son of the late James A. and Louvina (Muth) Battle. He was a WWII veteran with the U.S. Navy serving in the South Pacific on the islands of Roi-Namur in the Marshall Islands, where he briefly worked alongside Charles Lindbergh. Ed received his master’s degree from Duquesne University, and earned his Certified Public Accountant license in 1955. He subsequently started his own accounting practice, where he worked until his retirement. Ed was the beloved husband for 62 years to the late Mary Theresa (Cullen) Battle; loving father of Nancy Battle, Eileen Anne Onofrey (late Daniel), Mary Louise “Mer” Rasmussen, Joanie Deigan (Mark), Edward Battle Jr. (Sarah), Michael Battle, and Karen Marie Battle (late Richard Atkins); grandfather of Danielle Ryan, Jennifer Deigan, Cory Rasmussen, Melissa Deigan, Kalina Battle-Atkins, Raymond Deigan, Audrey Deigan, Erin Deigan, Charles Deigan, Patrick Onofrey, and Natalie Onofrey; great-grandfather of Dean, Camaro, Giavanna, Annabelle and Brooklyn; brother of the late Helen Dunlap, James Battle, Daniel Battle, Urban Battle, Monica Barry and Mae Wheeler; also survived by many nieces and nephews. Family and friends are welcome Thursday 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at the Beinhauer-Connell Funeral Home, 5120 West Library Avenue, Bethel Park, PA (412-835-7940). A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Friday in Our Lady of Hope Parish, St. Valentine Church. Entombment will be in Queen of Heaven Cemetery.
