Karl Otto "Opa" Nurnberg, age 83, of Canton passed away Sunday, January 23, 2022 at Northside Hospital Cherokee. Funeral services are scheduled for 3:00 p.m. on Monday, January 31, 2022 at Antioch Christian Church with Pastor Ken May officiating. The family will receive friends at Antioch Christian Church on Monday from 12:00 p.m. until the funeral hour. Interment services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, February 1, 2022 at the Georgia National Cemetery. Mr. Nurnberg was a Corporal in the U.S. Marine Corps and a Vietnam Veteran. He was a retired architect. Karl received his associates degree in drafting from Hudson Valley Community College in Albany, NY and was a member of the American Institute of Architects. He was a member of Antioch Christian Church and was considered an ambassador for Jesus Christ. He was a good "story teller" and a loving husband and father. He was preceded in death by his first wife of 55 1/2 years, G. Judith "Judy" Nurnberg. Survivors include his wife, Joan Stewart Nurnberg; three children, Julia Marie Sewell (Ronald), Eric Karl Nurnberg (Donna Cole Kelley) and Andrew Mark Nurnberg; four grandchildren, Samuel Orion Sewell, Tyler Eric Nurnberg, Brittany Amber Nurnberg and Russell Lee Nurnberg; three great-grandchildren, McKenna Joy Nurnberg, Nevaeh Faye Nurnberg and Tyler Eric Nurnberg, Jr.; two brothers, Richard Nurnberg and Kenneth Nurnberg; five stepchildren; twelve step-grandchildren; as well as several nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family and friends. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the American Lung Association, American Cancer Society, St. Jude Children's Research Hosptial or the D.A.V. (Disabled American Veterans).
