Matthew R. Powell, 53, of Glenford, died Sunday, January 23, 2022 at his residence. He was born December 19, 1968 in Ashtabula, Ohio, a son of the late Robert F. (Jacquelyn) Powell and Rebecca A. (Paul) Kennedy. He graduated from John Glenn High School Class of 1987, then attended The Ohio State University. Matt served in the Ohio Army National Guard for two years and was a member of Pleasant Grove United Methodist Church. He owned and operated Excavation Unlimited LLC, and co-owned and operated HP Construction for many years. Matt loved being outdoors; taking walks in the woods; riding ATV’s; watching movies; playing video games, especially with his kids; reading; learning new things; and most of all, spending time with his family and friends. He was always ready and willing to lend a helping hand when others were in need.

Surviving are his wife of 30 years, Robin L. (Rector) Powell, whom he married August 10, 1991; one daughter, Sarah Powell; and two sons, Ryan Powell and Evan Powell. His mother, Rebecca A. (Reed) Kennedy; sister, Kimberly (Josh) Battin; brothers, Randy (Kristy) Powell; Marcus Powell; Christopher (Chalsie) Kennedy; Jack (Lisa) McClelland; Paul (Amanda) McClelland; father-in-law, Carl D. Rector; sister-in-law, Wendy (Greg) Hunter; brother-in-law, Brad (Lisa) Rector; multiple nieces, nephews, and loving friends.

Matt was preceded in death by his father, Robert F. Powell; step-mother, Jacquelyn (Mekkelson) Powell; step-father, Paul Kennedy; and nephew, Jeremiah Binckley.

Friends and family may call from 2-5 P.M. Sunday, January 30, 2022 at BOLIN-DIERKES FUNERAL HOME, 1271 BLUE AVENUE, ZANESVILLE, where funeral services will be held at 1:00 P.M. Monday, January 31, 2022 with Pastor Jack McClelland officiating. He will be laid to rest at Zanesville Memorial Park Cemetery, Zanesville.
