She was born October 12, 1930, in Amory MS and raised in Orlando FL. She moved around the country for a bit but returned to Central FL and always considered that her home. She retired from Southern Bell after 30 plus years of service. While employed there, Betty was the very first female union Vice President for the Central Florida chapter of the Communication Workers of America. It wasn't long after retiring, she began volunteering at a nursing home doing hair for the residents who could not afford to have it professionally done. After moving to North Georgia, she started volunteering at the local hospital. She really enjoyed that work and continued after she returned to DeLand, volunteering for Advent Health Hospital. Betty's two loves (after her son) were shopping and growing African Violets. Even after moving to Majestic Oaks, her windowsill would be lined with violets that she tended to each day. Betty was preceded in death by her father, Raymond Thompson, mother, Grace Dyer Thompson, Husband Landon John Morris, bonus son John Morris, and her cousin Del Ward. She is survived by her son (her pride and joy) Robert Cox and his wife Kendra, bonus son Mike Morris and his wife Bev, bonus daughter Elaine Morris, cousins Dee Redwine and Buddy Fuqua and her sister by choice Mary Dot Courtney. Betty Jean Morris was called home to be with the Lord Sunday December 12, 2021. She was born October 12, 1930, in Amory MS and raised in Orlando FL.
