Graciela "Grace" R. Cruz Obituary

Graciela “Grace” R. Cruz, 74, of Galesburg, passed away on Friday, January 21, 2022 at OSF St. Mary Medical Center, Galesburg. Grace was born August 20, 1947 in Nuevo Laredo, Tamaulipas, Mexico, the daughter of Cruz Rendon-Ayala and Maria de los Angeles Santoyo-Juarez. She married Sergio Cruz in Laredo, Texas on January 15, 1968 and they eventually settled in Galesburg. Grace worked as a cook at Cottonwood Health Care Center until they closed and later at Galesburg Terrace for many years. Left to cherish her memory is her loving husband of 54 years; three daughters: Brenda (Carlos) Juarez of Galesburg, Sandra (Dionicio) Gutierrez of Galesburg, and Guadalupe (Enrique) Gomez of Marshalltown, Iowa. Grace is also survived by ten grandchildren: Angelica, Bianca, Kassandra, Emilio, Alejandra, Gabriela, Dionicio, Shawn “Michael”, Enrique, and Ramiro; sixteen great grandchildren: Gerardo, Ivan, Abran, Catalea, Victoria, Salma, Emiliana, Leo, Viviana, Liam, Heriberto, Eliciah, Avianah, Kamilah, Kruz, and Juliana; two brothers: Bernardo Rendon-Santoyo and Javier Rendon-Santoyo, both of Mexico; and four sisters: Laura Rendon-Santoyo, Ma. Santa Rendon-Santoyo, Sanjuana Rendon-Santoyo, and Norma Lidia Rendon-Santoyo, all of Mexico. She was preceded in death by her parents and three brothers: Juan Rendon-Santoyo, Cruz Rendon-Santoyo, and Raul Rendon-Santoyo. Grace was a devoted member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Galesburg. She enjoyed gardening and spending time with her family, friends, and especially her grandkids. Grace always made sure her loved ones were taken care of and always fed. She was a caring and devoted wife, mother, sister, aunt, grandmother, and friend who will be greatly missed by all who knew her. Visitation will be 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, January 26, 2022 at Watson Thomas Funeral Home and Crematory, Galesburg. The rosary will be prayed at 7 p.m. at the funeral home following the visitation. Funeral Mass will be 11 a.m. Thursday, January 27, 2022 at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, with Father Lee Brokaw officiating. Burial will follow at St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Galesburg. Memorial contributions may be made to the family.
