Barbara DeHaan Springfield, Illinois Obituary

Barbara DeHaan

On January 22, 2022, Barbara DeHaan passed away peacefully at age 71, after a brief illness. Barbara was born on July 6, 1950, in Mexico City, Mexico, the daughter of Abraham Samuel and Rachel Lager Arvide DeHaan. Barbara was the biological mother of just one child. However, many people considered her their surrogate mother. When I was young, I was a “latch-key kid “and my mom worked hard to provide. She knew how to stretch those dollars like they were made from rubber bands! But even by the standards of the era, Barbara was an exceptional mother. She cared deeply for her family and neighbors. She did this not out of obligation, but because of who she was. She was always the first to offer help. She regularly brought meals to the home of sick neighbors, and she always ensured that every child who crossed her threshold was safe, healthy, and happy. She was preceded in death by her parents; one sister, Edna; and one brother, Michael. Barbara is survived by her son, Eduardo (wife, Yolanda) Quintana of San Antonio, TX; three grandchildren; her friend, Margie, who was like a sister; one niece, Andrea; and a multitude of family and friends that loved her dearly. Cremation will be provided by Lincoln Land Cremation Society.
