James “Ed” Grothe, 63, of Ottumwa, died at 11:41 a.m. January 22, 2022 at Ottumwa Regional Health Center. He was born May 10, 1958 in Ottumwa to Emil and Betty Watson Grothe. A resident of Ottumwa all his life, James had been an over the road trucker for Eastlick Trucking and Beacon Trucking for 10 years, retiring in 2001. He enjoyed fishing and spending time with family and friends. Surviving is a sister, Marsha (Scotty) Inman of Ottumwa; a brother, Steve (Kim) Grothe of Ottumwa; seven nephews, Steven, Tristan, Jamie, Drew, Josh, Tommy and Kaden; seven nieces, Dana, Mariah, Alice, Paige, Emily, Jolie and Zoey; his caregiver and niece, Bridget Dunne. He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Libby Grothe; a brother, Andy Grothe. His body has been cremated. No services are planned at this time.
