(Adamson) Ripperger was born on December 3, 1940, to Glenn and Mildred (Marshall) Adamson in Harris, Missouri. During childhood, the family moved to Iowa, and Janet graduated from high school in Seymour, Iowa. Janet met James J. Ripperger while they were both working at HyVee. The two were united in marriage on April 18, 1959, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Chariton, Iowa. To this union, six children were born: Joseph P. “Joe”, Joan C., Patricia A. “Pat”, Sherry S., Michael R., and Thomas J. “Tom”. Caring for the young family was Janet’s vocation and later, she worked for the USPS as a rural carrier for 15 years. After her retirement, she owned and managed a rental business. Janet always said, “when I retire, I’ll wear purple.” Janet enjoyed golf and was a member of the Chariton Golf County Club for 40 years. She was also an avid reader and was a member of a book club for many years. She was an excellent player of bridge which she thoroughly enjoyed. Janet was a devoted Christian, attending three masses each week. She unlocked the church every Sunday morning for mass service for many years. When Janet retired, her children gave her a 3 wheeled bicycle to ride. She enjoyed this and rode the bike five days a week until she became ill. Janet was a very kind and compassionate person, always willing to help others in need. She practiced what she preached. Janet passed away Sunday, January 23, 2022, at the Lucas County Health Center in Chariton. She will be greatly missed by her husband of 62 years, Jim Ripperger; her children: Joe (Jolene) Ripperger, Joan Anderson, Pat (Tom) Heinrichs, Sherry (Ken) Miller, and Tom (Jaci) Ripperger; 8 grandchildren; 5 step grandchildren; 1 great grandson; and siblings: Norman (Sharon) Adamson, Peggy McCarty, Pat (Bill) McAffee, and Nancy (Danny) Bennett.
