James Lincoln Reed age 83 of Mangum, Oklahoma entered into heaven's gates on Saturday afternoon, January 22nd, 2022. James was born in Mangum on September 2nd, 1938 to his parents Lincoln C. Reed and Inez Callins Reed. James enlisted in the Navy in 1955, during his length of time enlisted he spent time overseas in the Philippines and Japan. While visiting home in 1960 here in Mangum, Oklahoma James met the love of his life-his best friend Elizabeth "Peggy" Henderson-Reed. They fell in love and wed on May 22nd, 1960, they settled her in Mangum, Oklahoma. James and Peggy were inseparable and shared a beautiful union as husband and wife for 61 strong years. They are a true example of black love. After time served in the Navy, James began working at the Republic Gypsum. He worked there for 38 years and later retired as the Mill Superintendent. He knew so much about this place that they hated to see him go. While working James also started his walk with the Lord. In 1984 James became a minister here at the Colorado Street Church of Christ.J ames has ministered at various surrounding churches and his zeal for teaching the word of God, has made a huge impact on his community, family and friends. This is something he will forever be remembered for. He ministered from 1984 till present. When James wasn't knee deep in his bible he spent time on the creeks and lakes fishing. He became an amazing golfer and let's not forget that he also loved eating chips with salsa and ice cream while watching Sci-Fi and western movies. As we all know James was a cowboy himself and loved his western attire. James and his wife are well known in the Mangum community, the state of Oklahoma and Texas for their uplifting, witnessing and glorifying Our Lord Jesus Christ. James and Peggy also shared in life traveling together, fishing, fellowshipping, and most of all being inspirational parents and grandparents. James loved and adored his family. James Lincoln Reed was a Kingdom Man of our family and this community. Though his fleshly body is no longer with us his legacy will live on! James is preceded in death by his parents, Lincoln C. Reed and Inez Callins Reed; Son, James Hill; Daughter, Cassandra Miller; Brother, LC Reed; Sisters, Ruth "Jean" Fuller, Daisy Hughes, Joyce McDougle, Ernestine Ray Sanders, Billy Jean Roberts; Grandchildren, Rodric Boatner and Letita Miller; Great grandchildren, Marcus and Gabriel Jeremiah. Left to honor his memory, his loving wife, Peggy Reed; Son, Mickey Reed; Daughters, Debra Maddex and husband Gary, Charylene Layman and husband Gordon, and Barbara Boatner; Grandchildren, Damon Reed, Brandon Maddex, Jaysha Maddex, Kanisha Loftis, Sharon Whitfield, Charles "CJ" Whitfield, Ashley Reed, Travonte Drew, Whitney Drew, TrQuilla Drew, Leslie Boatner, Tameka Harris, Donald Miller and Tichina Miller; Thirty-five great grandchildren; As well as numerous nieces, nephews, and many other exteneded family members and friends. Open visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. - 8:00 p.m. Thursday, January 27, 2022 at Greer Funeral Home, Mangum, Oklahoma.Funeral services are 11:00 a.m. Friday, January 28, 2022 at the Mangum Church of Christ interment will follow at Riverside Cemetery, Mangum, Oklahoma.Services have been entrusted to Greer Funeral Home Mangum, Oklahoma.
