On January 14, 2022, John Berg left the love of family and friends to be united forever with his saviour Jesus Christ. Though he had challenges in this life, he did not waiver in his faith. John was not only a father to his own, but he was a present spiritual and emotional patriarch to his step kids, grandkids and friends. He is survived by his beloved wife Virginia, Susan & Gord Buss, Cindy and Bill Harper, Carol and Charles Booth, Michele and Jeff Simpson, Melanie and Rolf Boganes, Daniel and Michelle Berg, Paul and Kelly Unger, David and Priscilla Unger, 22 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren, his sister Beryl and Bob Wiebe, and his brother-in-law John Rogers. John Berg was the New Year’s Baby in Hardisty Alberta born on January 27, 1938. He eventually made his way to Calgary where he met the love of his life and settled in Okotoks. For almost 40 years, John and Virginia were seldom spoken of alone and most often referred to as John and Ginny. They had a loving partnership in all things – whether that was bringing families together for a memorable feast, rebuilding homes, operating successful businesses or enjoying warm adventures. They shared many of these moments with family and friends and no one wanted to miss out. John and Virginia fostered a blended family where every member is cherished, accepted and included. John did many things well but his intense love for music was his gift that he shared in many wonderful ways. He was as skilled at playing steel guitar, bass and piano as he was with writing a song thanks to his usual quick wit. There was never a moment where John didn’t have a country lyric that fit any given situation. It was impossible for any who loved John and were loved by him to feel like he didn’t have time for them. He was always the man we could call if we ever needed advice or someone to talk to. John was faithful in his prayer life and many did not know they were regularly included in those prayers. We honour our beloved husband, father, dad and best friend when we draw near to Christ, whom John is now present with for eternity, and we look forward to seeing him again.
