Kathleen "Kathy" Marie Robertson Okotoks, Alberta Obituary

Kathleen "Kathy" Marie Robertson

Kathy passed away peacefully at the Peter Lougheed Centre in Calgary, Alberta on January 13th, 2022 with her loving family by her side at the age of 65 years. Kathy is survived by her husband David of over 40 years, her son Davey (Kristy) Roberson of Okotoks and her daughter Erin Roberson (Oliver Davey) of Calgary, as well as her two grandchildren, Bailey and Kennedy, who were her pride and joy. She was predeceased by her mother, Ellen, and Father, Herb. She also leaves behind many cousins and relatives in her hometown of Biggar, Saskatchewan. Kathy was born in Biggar on June 23, 1956 where, during her youngest years, she lived a strong Catholic lifestyle with her parents. Music became a passion for Kathy early on. She trained to play the piano and took singing lessons. These interests took root in her life and continued through her teen years while she lived in Hay River, NWT, after moving there in 1970. She sang in a local band that performed at dances and continued to play the piano in her spare time. She had a love for Elvis Presley and the Beatles. While in high school on Vale Island she was on student council and initiated a movement to have the school colour be purple, which was a unique change, and got to work on an innovative design for the logo with Don Cardinal Architect. She was academic and received honour roll status in her Grade 12 Business and English studies. Kathy’s teen years involved a bad car accident on her 16th birthday that landed her in the hospital facing a significant recovery period. It was during this time that she met her “hunk” who would carry her so she wouldn’t have to use crutches. In her 20s she worked at Canadian National Telecommunications before marrying her “hunk” on March 16, 1974. The fairy tale romance continued through into having their first child; her “Davey” who was born April 29, 1977. She then went back to work for Keith Water Services before being blessed with their second child; her daughter, Erin, who was born November 16,1979 after which she became a stay-at-home-Mom. Her time wasn’t only spent at home. She actively participated in Davey and Erin’s activities including Brownies and Girl Guides (as a brown old of Erin’s troop), volunteering in their Kindergarten classrooms, and assisted with school events. Her love for music persisted in the form of teaching music and piano lessons to students in Swan Hill once the move there was made in 1983. Kathy loved to be a part of Davey and Erin’s hockey, dance, baseball, and figure skating. She became an executive of the Figure Skating Club and joined the American Legion Baseball Program. She enhanced the annual figure skating club carnival productions by including painting the ice, introducing special themes and characters, and drew in nationally acclaimed athletes to perform. She did all of this while employed with Chem Security (Alberta Special Waste Treatment Facility) as well as an oilfield service supply company. Kathy always welcomed the friends of Davey and Erin into the home, making the Robertson household known by all and the house a neighbourhood hang out spot. In 1993 Kathy and her “hunk” moved to Okotoks. It is here that, on March 5th, 1998,she became a grandmother for the first time with the birth of Bailey Ann. Kennedy Brooke came along on May 2nd, 2001. Kathy was very proud of both of her granddaughters and loved them dearly. During her time in Okotoks her mother retired and then became frail with some health issues. Kathy stepped up to help her (Ellen) by having her move to Okotoks to be close by for her last 20 years. She loved her mother dearly. Kathy kept busy. She started to crochet and produced designs for her own items- her specialty were baby clothes and hats (“Kat’s Hat’s”). This hobby got her connected to people all over the world. She worked in Black Diamond for the Alberta Treasury Branch, was office manager for a real estate firm for some time, was known to be a trivial records expert, and was a beautiful soul that had an eye for style that included anything with bling or shine. The eye for shine may be what gave her such good luck to have won large sums of money through the lottery three separate times. In 2015 Kathy settled with her “hunk”, Dave, after he retired in 2015 and the two became as close as two separate people possibly could over the last 7 years. Health issues creeped in during these years which limited activities, but there was great enjoyment in growing old together to the end. It was TRUE love. A Private family service will be held for Kathy on Friday, January 28th at 1pm at Snodgrass Funeral Homes (Okotoks) 200 Woodgate Road. A recording of Kathy's servive will be available on our website shorly after her service. Kathy will be greatly missed. The arrangements of her care are now in the hands of Snodgrass Funeral Home in High River. 403-652-2222
