Alfred F. Ruggiero Obituary

Alfred Felice Ruggiero passed away on Monday, January 17th, 2022 at the age 86. He was a loving and devoted husband, father, Nonno, brother, uncle and friend. He was born in Verbicaro, Calabria, Italy. At the age of 14, after completing his education, he became a plumbing apprentice and learned his trade from a master plumber. In 1958, he joined the Italian Air Force where he served his time in Sardinia, Italy. He married the love of his life, Rose, at the age of 25. He then immigrated to San Francisco to begin his family. In 1961 they had their first born, Alfred. They waited a bit to welcome their daughter, Lisa, in 1971. Upon arrival, Al soon took a job at the French Hospital in San Francisco, while learning English at Mission High School. His ultimate goal was to join the Plumber’s & Pipefitter’s Local 38 Union, joining in 1963. He went to work for FW Spencer & Son, Inc. in 1964, working for them throughout his career as a commercial plumber, running many prestigious jobs such as SFO, UC Davis, as well as many jobs in and surrounding San Francisco’s skyline. In his 50+ year career, 35 of those were spent working as a proud UA Local 38 Plumber, where Al mentored many Bay Area men and women in their future careers. Al spent time with family and friends making homemade wine and sausage, playing bocce ball, being a member and President of The Silano Club, a Board of Director with the Italian-American Social Club, and an Officer with The Sons of Italy Club in San Francisco. He always helped those that needed help, and in general he was consistently a generous soul. In 1976 he bought some land in Nevada City where he built his cabin. Al was passionate about his piece of Heaven, where he spent many weekends hunting, visiting, and enjoying the company of family and friends. Anyone who ever visited will remember his infamous barbecue’s. He was always generous in spirit and FOOD!! Al, Lisa and his grandchildren can share many stories of the fun they had bringing multiple generations out for a great time! He is preceded in death by his parents, Giuseppe and Elisabetta, his sisters Teresa, Giuseppina and Domenica. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Rose, son Al (Laura), daughter Lisa (Jim), three grandchildren, Joey, Benny, and Alexandra, as well as his nieces and nephews both here and in Verbicaro, Italy, and many, many friends. He will be remembered as a true patriarch, for the love of his family, and his devotion to his wife, Rose. A vigil and prayer will be held at Duggan’s Mortuary in Daly City on January 26th, 5:30-8:00 PM. (Livestream available) On January 27th, a funeral procession will start at Duggan’s at 9:00 AM.
