Funeral services for Mavis Westfall Watson will be held 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 22, 2022, at East Leesville Baptist Church in the Family Life Center with Reverends Tommy Kiker, Sammy Morrow, and Morris Goins officiating. Burial will follow in Florien Cemetery under the direction of Jeane’s Funeral Service. A visitation will be held at the church on Friday, January 21st from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Mavis was born September 15, 1935, in Peason, Louisiana and passed away January 18, 2022, in Leesville, LA at the age of 86. She worked for a short time as a secretary at St. Michael’s Catholic Church before working for over 15 years for the Vernon Parish School System as a remedial reading teacher. Mavis was a longtime, faithful member of East Leesville Baptist church where she served on the food committee and made many meals for church events. Everyone loved her coconut pies. She was a member of the same Sunday School class for 42 years and would volunteer to rock babies in the nursery class. She enjoyed traveling throughout the United States and taking special Mother’s Day trips. At home, Mavis was the perfect example of a loving wife and mother. She spent many hours working in her yard and garden and even more hours cooking delicious meals. She had a joyful disposition and truly enjoyed being a caretaker to her family. She was fiercely loyal to them and their number one supporter. Mavis was preceded in death by her parents, A.V. Westfall and Tishia Miller Westfall and siblings, Earl Westfall and Murl Westfall all of Peason, LA. Those left to cherish her memory are her husband of 67 years, James “Harry” Watson; sons, Rodney Watson and wife Jo of Humble, TX and Lenny Watson and wife Laura of Anacoco, LA; daughter, Kayla Torley and husband Chris of Flower Mound, TX; grandchildren, Traci Watson Bailey and husband Wes, Skylar Watson and wife Jasmine, Sarah Watson Wyatt and husband Kevin, Trent Watson, Michael Torley, Alexia Riggs and husband Cade, Rusty West and wife Averi, and Mark West and wife Claire; great-grandchildren, McKenzie Hall, Carter Hall, Ethan Wyatt, Jim Riggs, Charlie Riggs, Aubri Watson, Sylas Watson, Abel Watson, Vivian Watson, Haley West, Landrie West, Christopher West, Parker West, and Kayle Little; sister, Imogene Montgomery and husband Hulan of Houston, TX; and a host of extended family members. Pallbearers will be Kevin Wyatt, Wes Bailey, Trent Watson, Mark West, Skylar Watson, Timothy Finch, and Jonathan Fitch. Honorary pallbearers will be Michael Torley and Rusty West.
