  John E. Redfern, 85, of Streator passed away Monday, January 17, 2022 at his residence in Streator surrounded by his loving family.

  Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11:00 A.M. Monday at St. Michael the Archangel Parish Church, Streator.

  Visitation will be from 2-5 P.M. Sunday at the Solon-Telford Funeral Home, Streator.  The rosary will be recited at 4:45 P.M.

  Burial will be in Long Point Cemetery in Long Point, Illinois.  Full military rites will be accorded by members of the Leslie G. Woods American Legion Post 217 and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1492.  Pallbearers will be grandsons, Warren Mitchell, Zachary Vogel, Noah Perez and Jonathan Moore; sons in law, Bill Vogel and Al Perez; and a grandson in law, Adrian Ortiz.

  Born July 7, 1936 in Streator he was the son of William and Lina (Smith) Redfern.  He married Joyce M. Luckey on November 28, 1959 at St. Anthony Church, Streator.

  He is survived by his wife, Joyce M. Redfern of Streator; a son, Joel Redfern of Peoria; daughters, Jennifer (Bill) Vogel of Ottawa, Jill (Al) Perez of Streator and Julie Moore of Streator; grandchildren, Warren Mitchell of Streator, Brianna (Adrian) Ortiz of Normal, Lexi Vogel of Celebration, Florida, Zachary Vogel of Ottawa, Emma Perez of Streator, Noah Perez of Streator, Madison Redfern of Streator, Jonathan Moore of Streator and Isabella Moore of Streator; and great grandchildren, Jaiden, Braylen, Gabriel and Teegan Ortiz all of Normal.

  He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, John G. Redfern; a granddaughter, Angel Perez; and a great granddaughter, Autumn Perez; a twin brother, Thomas Redfern; brothers, Loren and Robert Redfern; sisters, Dorothy Barton, Rita Peters and Betty Nolan; numerous nephews and nieces also survive.

  Raised in Cornell he attended Cornell Grade School and graduated from Cornell High School.

  He served in the United States Army from 1957 until 1959.  He served in Germany.

  John attended Beauty School and worked in Streator as a hairdresser for several years.  He also worked for Owens Illinois Glass Company.  Later he worked for St. Mary’s Hospital as a painter for over 35 years until his retirement.

  He was a long time active member of the former St. Anthony Church and currently belonged to St. Michael the Archangel Church.  He was also a member of the Msgr. George A. Dzuryo Knights of Columbus Council # 790.

  The family would like to thank John’s caretakers Sarah, Sally, Courtney and Donna for the loving care they gave to him.
