Jean (Mitchell) Mowbray Caffrey, 94, died peacefully on January 19, 2022. Born to Thomas Mitchell and Alice (Henessey) Mitchell and raised in Utica, NY. Jean graduated from St. Francis De Salles High School (1944) and Syracuse University (1948) with degrees in Business and Education. Upon graduating, Jean and Jack Mowbray Jr. married, moved to Morristown, NJ and raised their four children. Devoted parents, Jean and Jack spent many happy family times in Morristown, at Spring Brook Country Club, at the Jersey Shore and Lake Morraine in NY. After 31 years of marriage, Jack passed. Several years later, Jean found happiness again in marriage with Jerry Caffrey. Jean is predeceased by her sisters, Alice Cleveland and Lois Pritchard, her husbands, John Alfred (Jack) Mowbray Jr. and James Gerard (Jerry) Caffrey and her son, John Alfred Mowbray III. Jean is survived by her daughters, Gail Wills (Brian), Anne Cooney (Kevin) and Laurie Fritze (Robert) and Jerry’s children, June Meehan (Daniel), Robert Caffrey (Sue Anne) and Christopher Caffrey (Sherry). Jean leaves 20 loving grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and many devoted nieces and nephews. Jean encouraged her children, grandchildren, nieces and nephews to live life to the fullest, and she did so herself. She enjoyed playing golf, bridge, bowling, sewing, and reading. She completed at least 1 crossword puzzle each morning of her entire life. Jean was happiest hosting holiday parties and cookouts for family and friends. After her children had grown, Jean worked as an Administrative Assistant at Nabisco Brands in NJ. Jean was a devout Catholic throughout her life. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated this summer. For now, please keep Jean and her family in your thoughts and prayers.
