Janet Denise Matthews Obituary

Janet Denise Wilson Matthews was born August 24, 1961 in Anderson, SC to the late Stewart Wilson, Jr. and Laura Ellen Adams Wilson.

Janet was a 1979 graduate of T.L. Hanna High School.  She matriculated at S.C. State College (University), where she earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration.

Janet retired in December of 2020 from Ford Motor Credit in Mauldin, SC, after eighteen years of service. She later returned to work last April as a customer service representative for One World Technologies at TTI in Anderson, SC.

Janet joined St. Paul First Baptist Church at a young age and was a faithful member.  Janet was the church clerk, assistant Sunday School teacher of the young adult class, and a member and former president of the St. Paul Gospeliers.  She was also the vice president of the Deaconess board and a member of the YWA. Janet was always willing to help whoever she could, including the kitchen committee.  She was a beautiful person inside and out.  Her smile and great personality will be greatly missed.  Janet loved baking, singing, traveling, and loved spending time with her family.

Janet joined the Iva Chapter #275 Order of the Eastern Stars in November of 2011, where she held the position of Associate Matron. 
She leaves behind to cherish her memory, her husband, Stephen Anthony Matthews; four siblings, Lamonte Wilson of Canton, GA, Priscilla W. Moore of Mauldin, SC, Gregory Wilson of Anderson, SC and Deborah Bennett (Lornell) of Anderson, SC; and a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.

In addition to her parents, Janet was preceded in death by two brothers, Robert C. Wilson and Raleigh E. Wilson and one sister, Brenda Ann Burton.

Public viewing will be held on Saturday, January 22, 2022 from 1:00 until 6:00 p.m. at the funeral home.  

The funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, January 23, 2022 in the Ollie Robinson Brown Memorial Chapel of Marcus D. Brown Funeral Home.  The interment will follow at Oaklawn Memorial Gardens.

The family is at the home of her sister, Deborah Bennett, 104 Knightsbridge Lane, Anderson ,SC 29621.
