William Leatherwood Hamilton, Georgia Obituary

William Leatherwood

William Edgar Leatherwood, age 59, of Hamilton, GA, passed away peacefully in his home, surrounded by family, early Wednesday morning, January 19, 2022. William was born January 20, 1962 at the Chambliss Clinic in Hamilton, GA. The son of James Leatherwood and Julia "Nita" Graham Leatherwood, William remained a life-long resident of Hamilton. He graduated from Harris County High School in 1980 and began his career as an EMT at Harris County EMS. William served the county for 37 years. William was preceded in death by his father James Leatherwood, paternal grandparents William Edward Leatherwood and Bessie Chapman, and maternal grandparents Roy Edgar and Mary Lizzie Graham. William is survived by his wife, Angela Diane Castile Leatherwood, son John Halstead, mother Julia "Nita" Leatherwood, sister Denise Leatherwood Edgemon (Ken) of Hamilton, sister Sharon Wyatt of Valley, AL, nephews Jason, John, and Brian Edgemon, Andy Shelton and Jamie Wyatt, and great niece "Butterbean" whom he loved dearly. William was known and loved by many. He was quite the entertainer, having been the lead singer for several southern rock and country bands. He had a great love of music. There wasn't much he couldn't do, from singing to building a gathering place for friends and family. He had a love of drawing and was able to look at something or imagine it and put it on paper. Also, an accomplished cook, William was able to feed the body, mind, and soul of friends. William had a passion for motorcycles, cars, and trucks, and has owned too many of them to count. From hot rods to rat rods, he loved them all. This led to drag racing where he took the rubber to the race track in his beloved '71 Nova. William also had a generous heart towards the people in his life. He contributed his time and energy to support many experiencing difficult times. He led the way for many dinners and auctions to raise funds for friends. His band even played a benefit to support "Jake & Bear". His contributions are a living legacy to a wonderful man. William lived life to the fullest and never met a stranger. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him. Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM Monday, January 24, 2022 at the Chapel of Cox Funeral Home in Hamilton, with Pastor Rick Lipp officiating. Interment will follow in Roosevelt Memorial Cemetery in Pine Mountain Valley. The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 PM Sunday, January 23, at the funeral home.
