Merritt Lynn Mize, age 81, resident of Wolfforth, Texas went to be with his Lord and Savior on Tuesday afternoon, January 18, 2022 at Covenant Medical Center in Lubbock, Texas with his wife Carol by his side.  Merritt was born on September 8, 1940 in Portales, New Mexico to Arlin Loren “Ott” and Verna Estelle (Smith) Mize.  He was a graduate of Portales High School in Portales, New Mexico.  Merritt married the love of his life, Carol Annette Lindsey on January 4, 2014 in Sedona, Arizona.  Merritt worked at GAC in New Mexico, General Steel, South Plains Heating and Air, Target Sheet Metal where he was a business partner, and most recently he and Carol owned and operated Hawkize Property Management along with Brenda and John Hawkins since 2015.  He loved Corvettes and was a past member of the Corvette Club.  He also loved traveling, riding his Harley Davidson, and just spending time with his wife Carol.

Merritt is survived by his wife, Carol Lindsey-Mize of the home in Wolfforth, Texas; his daughter, Sonja Read and her husband Dusty of New Braunfels, Texas; two granddaughters; five great grandchildren; two sisters, Diane Russell and her husband Gordon of Andrews, Texas and Eileen Urquart of Boise, Idaho; his mother-in-law, Charlotte Lindsey of Coweta, Oklahoma; his brother-in-law, Sheldon Lindsey of Coweta, Oklahoma; and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends

Merritt was preceded in death by his parents, Arlin Loren “Ott” and Verna Estelle Mize and his step-brother, Ermon Loren “Skooter” Mize.

Visitation will be from 2:00-6:00 PM on Sunday, January 23, 2022 at Brown Funeral Home in Coweta, Oklahoma.  Services celebrating Merritt’s life will be at 2:00 PM on Monday, January 24, 2022 at Shahan Free Will Baptist Church in Coweta, Oklahoma with Rev. Lynn Moss officiating.  Merritt will be laid to rest at Shahan Cemetery in Coweta, Oklahoma.  Pallbearers are John Hawkins, Terry Colley, Mark Stiff, Craig Robertson, Josh Davis, and Ron Bell.
