Gordon James Farley Obituary

Gordon James Farley was born in Manitou, Manitoba on May 23rd, 1926 to parents William and Elizabeth Farley. The family moved to England for a few of Gordon’s toddler years until returning to Manitoba in 1931. After a tumultuous childhood, Gordon lied about his age and enlisted with the Canadian Army. He was stationed at Ft. Garry, Winnipeg and then moved to Camp Shilo near Brandon, MB in preparation for deployment. It was there the trumpets played and the war was over, sending everyone home. Gordon then moved to Porcupine Plain to reconnect with his dad and discovered farming was his passion. In 1946, Gordon met Lucille, the love of his life, and they were married October 7, 1948. They had five children, Brian, Elaine, Ralph, Loreen and Darrell. Together they began their farming career north of Porcupine Plain, close to the newly named Farley Bridge at SE 32,43,9. They remained there until they moved into the town of Porcupine Plain in 2002. Gordon loved woodworking, playing pool, fishing, snowmobiling and quadding with the “North Bunch.” He was a terrific community-minded man that volunteered his time on various committees and boards. He enjoyed attending coffee row with the regulars, was fondly known as Papa Smurf around town and was loved by everyone from 2-92, but family was his world.
Gordon leaves to mourn his children Elaine (Ernie), Ralph (Val), Loreen (Rick), Darrell (Sharon) and Grandchildren: Tracy (Cam), Tyler (Carrie), Tanya (Ryan), Tanis (Jeff), Greg (Stephanie), Kirk (Deanna), Karla (Elgin), Kylie (Tyson), Brian (Danielle), Brett (Naomi), and Great Grandchildren: Sarah, Jordi, Russel, Dylan, Riley, Damon, Ashley, Grady, Paxton, Chayse, Mac, Toryn, Taylor, Tarin, Brynlee, Kalli, Kamryn, Kendall, Emrie, Addison, Anna, Aden, Julia. Gordon was predeceased by his wife of 71 years, Lucille, parents William and Elizabeth Farley, son Brian, son-in-law Russel, infant grandson, infant great grandson, infant great granddaughter, and his sister Myrtle.
