Frederick J. "Fred" Gorman Jr. Obituary

Change of Date to Friday, January 28, 2022 due to snowstorm Frederick John Gorman Jr. 11/19/43-1/16/22 Fred was born on November 19, 1943, the only son of Frederick and Ruth Gorman of Melrose. Fred attended the Melrose school system and graduated from Melrose High School, Class of 1961. After high school, Fred married the love of his life Claire (Malenchini) and they remained in Melrose to raise a family. He worked for over 25 years at the (legendary) Deering Lumber in Melrose and then worked for International Paper and Hillside Machinery for several years before his retirement. Fred had a calm, quiet demeanor, and was a good person with a kind soul. However, he was most notable for his quick wit and sense of humor—always making people laugh. He and Claire raised their two boys in Melrose, the city that he loved and adored, and called his home. Fred loved watching the Patriots and Red Sox games (with Claire) and taking his morning and afternoon walks around Melrose. He looked forward to Claire’s homemade cooking each day, especially her famous chicken soup. He loved his years spent in Maine fishing with his cousins and sons. But most of all, he loved his family and spending time with all of them. Fred was the son of the late Frederick and Ruth Gorman and loving wife to Claire (Malenchini) Gorman of Melrose. Loving son in law to the late John and Claire Malenchini of Melrose. Loving father to Sean and his wife Lisa (Tura) and the late beloved James “Jimmy” whom he missed deeply. Loving “Pup” to Timothy, Haley, Alyssa and Cameron Gorman, all of Melrose. Loving brother in law to the late Gaetano “Sonny” and Joanne (Malenchini) Mistretta of Winchester, the late Carl Malenchini and former father in law to Karen and Carolyn. Also survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Visiting hours will be held at Gately Funeral Home, Melrose, Friday, January 28, 2022 from 8:30am to 10:30am followed immediately by a Mass at St. Mary’s Church at 11AM with a burial at Wyoming Cemetery.
