Mrs. Letha Roe Obituary

Letha Mae Roe was born on August 25, 1935 in Cotton Valley, Louisiana to the late Willie B. & Ethel Hawthorne. She accepted the Lord and Savior Jesus Christ at a young age. Letha attended Thomasville School in Webster Parish (Sarepta, LA).

In 1964, Letha married the love of her life, the late Benjamin Roe. They lived together in Sarepta and later Springhill, Louisiana until they relocated to the Kansas City, Missouri area and reared three beautiful children. Letha was employed by the University of Missouri-Kansas City and retired as a member of the janitorial team after many years of service.

She was a member and attended Sunday School/Sunday Services at Mount Pleasant Missionary Baptist Church.

Letha loved her family immensely. Over the years, you could find her making home cooked meals for family weekends & holidays. She loved calling her sisters and talking on the phone for hours. Letha also loved the game of football and was an avid Kansas City Chiefs fan. You could find her on NFL Sundays in the living room, cheering them on. On warm summer days, Letha loved sitting on her front porch and planting flowers all around her yard. She was extremely loving, humble, and always made sure that everyone was taken care of. She opened her home to many relatives coming to Kansas City for a fresh start.

Letha made her heavenly transition on Sunday, January 16, 2022 peacefully in her home. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her daughter, Dell Webster; son, James Thomas; grandson, Michael Webster Jr; sister, Carrie Brooks; brothers, Pete Hawthorne, Willie Hawthorne Jr, John D. Hawthorne, and several special relatives.

Letha leaves to cherish her memories, her son, Kenneth W. Roe of Kansas City, Missouri; daughter in love, Lenette R. Thomas of Grandview, Missouri; two granddaughters, Ketina Crews (Donavan) of Houston, Texas and Monique Winfield of Grandview, Missouri; two grandsons, Jason Thomas (DeAndrea) and Christopher Thomas of Grandview, Missouri; four great granddaughters, Brittany Sears of Atlanta, Georgia; Tamaya Carr, Jazlynn Thomas, Jadynn Thomas and Jordynn Thomas of Grandview, Missouri; three great grandsons, Airis Sears of Miami, Florida; Demetrius Webster (TyNyra), Tyrik Carr of Grandview, Missouri; great-great grandson, Cameron Webster of Grandview, Missouri; two sisters, Gracie Green and Mary Smith of Cullen, Louisiana and a host of loving relatives and friends.
