James "Whit" Newton Whittley Obituary

James Newton Whittley aka "Whit" passed away on Saturday, January 15, 2022 at his home in Wellington, Kansas at the age of 74. He was born the son of Thomas and Beulah (Smith) Whittley on December 9, 1948 in Dennis, Kansas. On June 15, 1969, James and Anna (Hansard) Whittley were united in marriage in Belle Plaine, Kansas. Together they celebrated 52 years of marriage. Jim had a strong faith and was a member of the Wellington Baptist Temple. He loved working in the ministry and served with the Gideon's. Jim attended bible college in Springfield, Missouri. Jim owned a few businesses in his life, the first being Whit 66 and most recent Whittley Excavating. He had a passion for tractors and heavy machinery. For many years he was an active member of the Sumner County Antique Tractor Association. Survivors include his son, Lee Whittley (Tammy) of Fort Supply, Oklahoma; son, Cavin Whittley (Victoria) of Wellington, Kansas; sister, Vernice Miller (Harold) of Waverly, Kansas; brother, Stan Whittley (Laura) of Thayer, Kansas; sister, Wilberta Riley (Charles) of Independence, Kansas; his grandchildren: Aja Strasser, Kaylee Whittley, Braydon Jackson, Kylee Whittley, Jacob Whittley, Isaac Whittley, Curtis Jackson and Evegelene Whittley along with many foster grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and loving wife. Memorial services for James will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, January 22, 2022 at Wellington Baptist Temple, 1022 North Plum Street, Wellington, Kansas.
