​Fred Cyrus Styer, 91, of Susque View Road, Catawissa, Pa. passed away on Jan.14, 2022 in the home that he and his family built after their first home was destroyed by flooding. He was surrounded by his family, assisted by the VNA Hospice of Shamokin.

​Fred was born June 30, 1930 at the Geisinger Hospital in Danville Pa. Fred was the 10th child of 12 born to the lateCharles and Emily (Crossley) Styer.  His brothers were Ralph, Leonard, Allen, Lloyd, Bruce, Wilbur, Paul, and Howard, who predeceased him. He is survived by his brother John Styer and sisters Rachel Swartz and Hilda (Carl) Kashner

​He survived by his wife of 70 years Emmaline Clark Styer and 4 children, Steven (Nancy), Tony (Penny), Sharon (Lee) Moyer and Kathy (Cliff) Johnston.  They have 6 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren. He was also known as Poppy Fred to many others.

​He grew up on a farm outside of Danville and graduatedfrom Danville High School in 1948. 

​He entered the Army in 1951. He worked at the Danville State Hospital for over 26 years. After retiring, he was a member of PARSE and served as president and secretary.

​Over the years on the farm, they raised many kinds ofanimals. For some years, he was known as the sheep farmer of Columbia County.  He was a member of the Sheep and Wool Growers Association and served as president. 

​He is a member of the Roaring Creek Valley UMC (the former MT. Zion U.M  Church) and held many offices and served on many committees. He sang in the choir, taught Sunday School, and Bible School.

​He volunteered with the Red Cross, NOMADS, and Agape.

​Fred and Em traveled to all of the United States but two.  They also went to Mexico, Canada, the Holy Lands and several countries in Europe.

A celebration of life will be held on April 23, 2022 at Roaring Creek Valley UMC, 6 Orchard Dr. Catawissa at 11:00 am with his Pastor Adam Miller officiating. Family will receive friends from 10:00 am till time of service. Burial will be at the convenience of the family.
