Samuel Craig Noah, “Sambo” , age 77, of Mantua, OH passed away Thursday, January 13, 2022, with his family near him. Born in Weirton WV, he was raised in Burgettstown, PA and graduated from Union High School in 1962. Due to his unique abilities and knowledge of Avionics while attending Pittsburgh Aviation School, he was “recruited” by the US Army into the 1st Cavalry Division, 229th Aviation Battalion, known as the “Smiling Tigers” gun company. He proudly sacrificed his own aviation dreams to serve in the U.S. Army as a Specialist 5 in Vietnam in 1968 and 1969. He was wounded during combat and was awarded a purple heart along with multiple other medals and commendations. As a proud Veteran, he attended countless reunions of the First Cav’s Aviation Division through the VHCMA, an organization that brought his “brothers” together for a weekend each summer for friendship and healing. Every Veteran was his buddy and ALL his buddies were his “brothers”. After Vietnam, Sam worked for Hunkin-Conkey, Kelley Steel Erectors & Broadway Excavating as a surveyor and construction engineer. Primarily based in the Cleveland area steel mills, he was well sought out for his superior surveying and engineering abilities. Sam was an avid golfer, hunter and fisherman and was content to lie in his hammock and be with friends, family & nature. He enjoyed mushrooming, was an excellent cook, a devoted blood donor and volunteered at civic and church activities. He also “cheated” at Euchre with his brother Bill to beat their wives. People were drawn to his warm heartedness. He was respected by his peers and was loved by so many. May his unselfishness and kind-heartedness live on in all of our memories. God grant him peace.
