<p><span style="font-size:16px;">Don Paul Sutherin, age 85, of Hartville went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday January 11, 2022. He was born in Empire, Ohio on February 29, 1936 to Albert and Lorrain (Culp) Sutherin.</span></p> <p><span style="font-size:16px;">He is proceeded in death by his parents Albert and Lorrain Sutherin, his brothers Robert and Kenneth Sutherin and sisters Wanda Maher, Phyllis Karaffa and June Kennedy.</span></p> <p><span style="font-size:16px;">Don was a member of the of Ohio State Buckeyes football team and kicked the winning field goal in the 1958 Rose Bowl Game. He was drafted in the 8th round by the New York Giants. He played professional football in the NFL and CFL, he taught and coached at Lake high school before returning to Canada to coach in the CFL from 1981-2001.</span></p> <p><span style="font-size:16px;">Don was inducted into the CFL football hall of fame as a player in 1992 as well as numerous other hall of fame and wall of honor accolades throughout his amazing career both in Canada, and the states.</span></p> <p><span style="font-size:16px;">He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Nancy; daughters Julie (George) Bears, Gail (Darrow) Smith, Becky Sutherin and Jill Sutherin; grandchildren Joshua Smith, Rachel Smith, Noah Bears, Caleb Bears, Anna Smith, Isaac Smith and Brooklyn Bears;sister Karen McGarry, sister-in-laws Veronica Sutherin and Miriam Fashbaugh; many nieces, nephews, grand nieces, grand nephews, cousins, ball players and friends.</span></p> <p><span style="font-size:16px;">Services will be held privately for the family.</span></p>
