David Arthur Harris Strathmore, Alberta Obituary

David Arthur Harris

On Tuesday Jan. 11, the man, the myth, the legend (in our eyes, and maybe in his) was reunited with the love of his life, Virginia. His greatest joy was his family. He is survived by his daughters Jocelyn (Stuart) and Karen, his grandchildren, Cayla (Jon), Tom (Megan), Kate and Luc, and his great-grandchildren Dylann, Bret and Reece. As many know, he was a teller of great stories, and loved nothing more than to talk about the accomplishments of his loved ones.
Art grew up in Drumheller, attended “Tech” (SAIT) and went to work for Calgary Power in Seebe, Spray and Calgary. He loved living in Canmore, and was very involved in community activities where he made many life-long friends.
Art spent 35 years with Calgary Power/TransAlta, later owned a consulting business in hydroelectric operations, and was a proud member of the TransAlta POWER retirees association.
He was also a proud supporter of the Calgary Stampeders, Ducks Unlimited, Wheatland Wildlife, the Alberta Children’s Hospital and the Legion.
Art and Virginia spent many years living at the Phoenician in Northwest Calgary. He will be remembered fondly by many, and the family will be hosting a PARTY at a later date. In the meantime, take a friend out for dinner, and pick up the tab in his memory. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to any of his favourite charities.
For every tear we shed, we have ten thousand reasons to smile.

A Party to celebrate one of the Good Guys will be held on Wednesday, August 10, 2022 at Strathmore Civic Centre (120 Brent Blvd, Strathmore) at 1:00 p.m.

I met Art early in my career during his hydro consulting days. He was an amazing, kind man and an excellent teacher. I have many fond memories of his stories and knowledge at the small town diners and hydro sites in the Lethbridge area.

A legend indeed! Our sincere condolences to Art’s family. We have many fond memories of times spent with Art and Virginia (a lot of them seem to involve TransAlta parties!) They were a central part of our TAU community here in the Bow Valley, and are greatly missed.
