Norman W. Brodeur Obituary

Norman W. Brodeur, of Malden, passed away at the Sawtelle Family Hospice House in Reading on January 11, 2022, at the age of 89. Norman was born on July 22, 1932 to the late George & Juliette (Beaulieu) Brodeur. He was raised in Everett, graduated from Our Lady of Pity High School in Cambridge, MA, and went on to earn his BA from Boston College. Mr. Brodeur was proud to have served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He worked for 25 years for Draper Lab and took great pride in working on the space program, particularly the Apollo program, where he received NASA Distinguished achievement award. Above all, Norman enjoyed spending time with his family and planned many wonderful trips over the years. There were plenty of family road trips in the van, summers spent in Falmouth with three more generations of Brodeurs in tow, and most famously of all: bargain cruises for the whole family. Norman’s kindness and generosity extended far beyond his own brood and he donated countless hours of his time to help others, whether that be teaching Sunday School, delivering socks and food to the CASPAR homeless shelter, or being a Boy Scout Troop Leader for Troop #633 in Melrose for over a decade. Norm was the beloved husband of Lia J. (Hackett) Brodeur. Loving father of Michelle Brodeur & her husband Ian Ward of Melrose, Stephen Brodeur & his wife Marilyn of Woburn, Andrew Brodeur & his wife Kathy Pigott-Brodeur, Elizabeth Brodeur, and Paul Brodeur & his wife Elizabeth Bailey Brodeur, all of Melrose. Cherished grandfather of Nathan Brodeur & his wife Amy of Melrose, Alexander Brodeur of Cambridge, Kris Brodeur of Washington, DC, Lia Brodeur of Medford, Robert Brodeur of Somerville, Sarah Hubauer of Webster and Ethan & Sam Brodeur, both of Melrose. Great grandfather of Thomas, Madeleine, Owen, Lucas and Charlotte Brodeur, Andrew Weissberg, Matthew Richardson, and Riley Bradshaw. Caring brother of Lorraine Childers of IL and the late George Brodeur. Visiting hours will be held at the Gately Funeral Home, 79 W. Foster St., Melrose on Sunday, January 16, 2022, from 2-5PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at the Most Blessed Sacrament Church, 1155 Main St., Wakefield on Monday, January 17, 2022, at 11AM. Relatives & friends respectfully invited to attend. Interment will be private.
