Joan M. Walker

WALKER, Joan M. Age 79, longtime resident of Arlington, and The Gables of Winchester, formerly of Lake View, NY, passed away on Monday, January 10, 2022, at the Lahey Sawtelle Hospice House in Reading. Born in Buffalo, NY on March 6, 1942, daughter of the late Irving J. W. and Florence (Houck) Walker. She graduated from the University of Buffalo with a BS in Math and a MS in Edu. She also received a Master’s Degree from Harvard University in City and Regional Planning. Joan taught HS math, then was a programmer for MITRE Corp, she retired as a Project Manager for the DoD Soldier Systems Center, Natick, MA.<br/><br/>Joan enjoyed skiing with family in Park City, summers on Cape Cod, tennis, plus traveling with friends and family. Joan ran in the Bonne Bell 10K mini marathon. She enjoyed the cultural activities of the Boston area with her friends.<br/><br/>Beloved sister of William I. (Adele) of Inverness, IL and Donald R. (Barbara) of Park City, UT. Joan is the Aunt of Kellie Humphery (Shawn), Stacey Walker, Tyffany Mandov (Botio), Jeremy Walker (Jayme) and Courtney Walker. Visitation will be held from 10 - 11 AM Friday, January 21 at the Keefe Funeral Home, 5 Chestnut St., Arlington followed by a short graveside service at 11:15 AM at the Mt. Pleasant Cemetery in Arlington. A luncheon for friends and family will follow the interment. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the Hydrocephalus Association, 4340 East West Highway, Suite 905, Bethesda, MD 20814.
