Meril A. Fetters, 93, of McConnellsburg, PA, died Friday, January 7, 2022 at his daughter’s residence.
Born on April 27, 1928 in Hustontown, PA, he was the son of the late Percy L. and Cecil (Abbott) Fetters. He was married to Mary J. Bishop on January 6, 1951. Mrs. Fetters preceded in death on October 21, 2004.
Mr. Fetters is survived by son Stanley Fetters, McConnellsburg, PA, daughter Saundra Birurakis, Great Mills, MD, grandchildren Michelle Stern, William Birurakis III, Alexandra Birurakis and Maria Birurakis and sisters Faye Brant and Joyce Mellott.
He was preceded in death by siblings Jeanette Fisher, Betty Cutchall, Ruth Dobbs and two infant children.
Mr. Fetters was a veteran of the United States Navy, having served in World War II and on the U.S.S. Wisconsin and U.S.S. Washington.
He was a member of various V.F.W. and Legions in McConnellsburg and the surrounding areas.
During his lifetime, Mr. Fetters retired after 20 years of service from the Letterkenny Army Depot, helped establish Fulton County’s first speedway, worked at Deshong-Fetters Construction company, was a part-time dairy and beef farmer and managed a local auto body shop.
He and his wife resided in Hustontown until 1989, then moved into McConnellsburg. They enjoyed traveling and camping all over the country in their RV.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM, Thursday, January 13, 2022 at the M. R. Brown Funeral Home, 301 Pitt Street, Hustontown, PA with Pastor Lyle Mellott officiating. Interment will be at Hustontown Cemetery, Hustontown, PA. Friends may call at the funeral home one hour prior to the service on Thursday.
