It is with great sadness and sorrow that the family of Audrey Teresa Nalewajek of West Kelowna, BC announces her passing at the age of 85 years.

Audrey will be sadly missed by her children, Ron (Wendy) Nalewajek, Sharon (Gary) Peterson, Laurie (David) Evans; her grandchildren, Sommer, Gina, Tasha, Justin, Mara, Alysha, Kenley and Christina; and 7 great-grandchildren.  She is predeceased by her loving husband of 57 years, Chester and her son, Chet.

Audrey was born in Montreal, QC.  When she was 12 years old, a local neighborhood boy named Chester took her for a ride on the handlebars of his bicycle.  That evening, she told her mother that she was going to marry that boy some day.  Determined and strong-willed even then, she married Chester in 1954 shortly after he returned from the Korean War. 

Chester and Audrey travelled extensively through Europe during their two military postings in Germany and many excursions thereafter.  Their love of travel took them to China, the Middle East, Mexico, many countries in both Eastern and Western Europe, and almost every state in the US.  They spent winters in Yuma for many years after their retirement.

After returning to Canada after their second military posting in Germany, the family moved to St. Albert, AB, where they lived for 29 years.  In 2001, Audrey and Chester moved to Vernon and then to West Kelowna in 2005.

Audrey was a true matriarch who loved and was loved fiercely by her family.  She will be remembered by everyone who knew her for her heart of gold, strength, sharp mind, and loving personality.  She showed empathy and caring to everyone who encountered her.  Audrey’s family is grateful for the time they had with her; she will live on forever in our hearts.

A Memorial Mass will be held at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church on Saturday, January 15, 2022 at 10:30 a.m. For those who are unable to attend, you are invited to watch the live stream of the service. You can link to it through this webpage on the day of the service.  A Celebration of Audrey’s Life and interment of the urn will be held in the spring of 2022.
