<p>Joseph &ldquo;Joe&rdquo; Patrick Bransfield, Jr., of Waltham, MA, formerly of Portland, CT, passed away peacefully on January 9, 2022, at age 93.&nbsp; He was the loving and proud father of&nbsp;Betsey Rose and her husband Mark of San Diego, CA; Kathleen Bransfield of Mountain View, CA; Joseph &ldquo;Jay&rdquo; Patrick Bransfield III of Piedmont, CA; Robert Bransfield and his wife Cherise of Nantucket, MA; and Patricia Patel and her wife Radha Patel of Oakland, CA.&nbsp; He was&nbsp;the cherished grandfather of Patrick Rose, Andrew Rose, Nicholas Chen, Liu Chen, Sophie Bransfield, Joseph Patrick Bransfield IV, Audrey Bransfield, Amelia Bransfield, Giselle Minshull, and Stuart Minshull. Brother to late siblings John Bransfield, Marie Gole, and Peter Bransfield.&nbsp; He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.&nbsp; He was the former husband of Suzanne (Pepion) Barnett of Haddam CT.</p> <p>Joe was born in Portland, CT, to Joseph P. Bransfield Sr. and Marguerite Bransfield on June 8, 1928.&nbsp; After graduating from Portland High School, Joe received degrees from UConn (B.S., Zoology), Boston University (MBA) and UConn Law School (J.D.).&nbsp; Joe served in the Korean War from 1951-1953.&nbsp; He worked for Pratt &amp; Whitney for several years while going to law school for 5 years at night. Upon graduation, he set up a law practice in Portland which continued for 45 years.&nbsp; During this time, he had a private practice, served as a public defender in both adult and juvenile court, and also served for a time as the local coroner.&nbsp; In the last few years, he had moved to the Boston Massachusetts area to be closer to family.</p> <p>Joe took great pride in the success of his kids and his grandkids, as well as his nieces and nephews. He loved to banter and debate with friend and foe alike. He was an avid reader, jazz lover, and a strong supporter of lifelong education for anyone at any level. He loved to sail with family and friends and was a devoted Yankees fan.</p> <p>A celebration of life will be scheduled in the spring. Burial at St. Mary&rsquo;s Cemetery, Portland, CT.&nbsp;</p>
