Albert William Moneypenny Obituary

Albert William Moneypenny, 103, of Weston, WV passed away on Wednesday, January 5th, 2022.

Albert was born on October 3rd, 1918 to the late Harvey Columbus Moneypenny and Ella (Smith) Moneypenny in Lewis County, WV. After graduation from Weston High School in 1939, Albert joined the Civilian Conservation Corps “CCC”, remaining there until 1941 when he enlisted for service in the U.S. Army to fight in WWII. His military service took him from Africa to Italy where he earned the Bronze Star for heroic and meritorious achievement. He was discharged from the U.S. Army in 1945 with the rank of Staff Sergeant.

Albert was employed for most of his career by Consolidated Natural Gas, retiring after 32 years. Following his retirement, Albert kept himself busy with his hobbies, including woodworking and restoration of antiques. He was also a member of the First Baptist Church of Weston, the Summersville Masonic Lodge, and American Legion Post #4.

Albert was married to the late Shirley Carol Piercy, for 64 years who preceded him in death in 2012. Albert was also preceded in death by two sisters, Rosa Pratt and Madaline Rogers, and three brothers, Ralph, Lawrence, and Elza Moneypenny. He is survived by one son, Gary Moneypenny, and his wife Robin, one granddaughter, Lindsay Hurley, and her spouse John, one grandson, Rian Moneypenny, and three great-grandchildren, Mason, Claire, and Lillian Hurley all of Spartanburg, South Carolina. Albert is also survived by several nieces, nephews, cousins, and many good friends. He will be missed by all that knew him.

A Graveside Service will be held at 1:00pm on Thursday, January 13th, 2022 at the Lewis County Memorial Gardens in Weston with Reverend Mark Evans officiating and military honors provided by the Lewis County Honor Guard. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the First Baptist Church at 132 East Second Street Weston, WV 26452.
