Sally (Church) Officer passed away peacefully in Austin, TX on Friday, April 15, 2016. Born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania on March 29, 1927, Sally was the oldest daughter of Bernice Millar and John Wheeler Church, Sr. She was predeceased by her husband of 55 years, Herbert George Officer, Jr., her son, Herbert George Officer III and brother, John W. Church, Jr. She is survived by her sister, Barbara Church Hofmann of West Chester, Pennsylvania, daughter Nancy Anne and husband, Steven Keith Davis, of Bozeman, Montana, son, Keith Church Officer and wife, Carol Fyall, of Lake Forest Park, Washington, and daughter, Barbara Elizabeth Roeling and partner Charles Fielding Staley, of Austin, Texas., as well as 10 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren. In 1944 she graduated from Mt. Lebanon High School in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and earned a BA degree in Business Economics from Smith College in Northampton, Massachusetts. Sally met her husband, Herbert George Officer, Jr. in Pittsburgh while Herb was working for Gulf Oil. After their marriage on May 11, 1951, in Pittsburgh, Sally gave birth to Herbert George Officer III before transferring to Bismarck, North Dakota where she gave birth to Nancy, Keith and Barbara, respectively. Sally also served as President of the Petroleum Wives Club, enjoyed playing golf, bridge, and being actively involved in the altar guild of the Episcopal Church. The family was later transferred to Calgary, Alberta, Canada, and later to Houston, Texas, where she remained active in the Episcopal Church. She and Herb retired to Wimberley, TX, where Sally enjoyed serving on the Altar Guild at St. Stephen's Episcopal Church. She was involved in the community as a member of the Woman's Club, Civic Club, Daughters of the American Revolution, Woodcreek Women's Golf Association, Wimberley Valley Genealogical Society, Wimberley Institute of Cultures and was also a volunteer for the Wimberley Village Library. In 2002 she and Herb moved to Austin in 2002 to be closer to family. A memorial service will be held at 10:00am on Saturday, April 23, 2016 at St. Stephen's Episcopal Church, Wimberley, Rev.
