Muriel T. Drake
Muriel T. Drake, a 51-year resident of Westford, Mass., passed away on December 31, 2021, a day after celebrating her 93rd birthday. Muriel was a mom, grammie and a great grandmother. She also was a successful and well-respected real estate broker who owned her own firm in Westford for many years before going to work for Coldwell Banker in Chelmsford. While raising her younger children in Westford, Muriel was very active in The First Parish Church. She held elected office in Westford, serving on the Westford Housing Authority for several terms. She helped at the polls for years and years, anytime there was an election in town and later in life, volunteered at the Senior Center’s thrift shop. She loved living in Westford and especially appreciated how the town treated its senior citizens. Muriel is survived by her five children, Maureen Cronin of South Londonderry, Vermont, Linda Martineau of Providence, Rhode Island, Steven Gallagher of Methuen, Mass., Janet Shira (Jim) of Edgewater, Florida and Kirk Drake of Nashua, N.H. She also leaves behind six grandchildren, James Farrell (Emily), Megan Farrell (Susie), Harvey Rowe (Stephanie), Leo Rowe (Crystal), Ryan Gallagher and Taylor Gallagher and eight great grandchildren, Koba, Nika, Maeve, Addie, Sophia, Timothy, Rebekah and Breanna. Muriel was also blessed with many friends who she considered family. She greatly enjoyed their company and their many activities whether playing cards or Bingo or going out to eat. And keeping her company at home for the past 14 years was her cat Sweetie who will now reside in Vermont with Muriel’s daughter. Muriel loved to travel and saw much of Europe, all the popular island destinations, and the U.S. and Canada. She was preceded in death by her parents and siblings. Muriel grew up in Lowell, Mass., the daughter of George and Marie Manousos. Her father immigrated from Greece and her mother from Canada. She was the older sister to her brother Charles Manousos and sister Alexandra (Sandra) MacDonald. A celebration of Muriel’s life will take place at the First Parish Church United in Westford Center, MA on Monday, January 10, at noon. All are invited to attend. Due to Covid, there will be no reception after the service. She will be laid to rest in the Fairview Cemetery in her beloved Westford.
