Huberta R. McDevitt Obituary

Huberta R. (Maher) McDevitt, 93, died, December 30, 2021, at home.  She was the beloved wife for 62 years of the late William H. McDevitt.

Born in Providence, she was the daughter of the late Walter and Mary (Flynn) Maher and was predeceased by her two sisters Mary Frances Maher and Nancy Galligan.

Huberta was a 1945 graduate of St. Xavier Academy and a 1949 graduate of Rhode Island College of Education.  She was a teacher in the Providence School system and later worked for the State of Rhode Island at the Department of Unemployment Services.  

She was a faithful volunteer and daily communicant of Saint Gregory the Great Church in Warwick.  Berba was an avid bridge player and member of “bridge club” for over 65 years.  She was also a lifetime summer resident of Atlantic Avenue in Matunuck.

Huberta leaves three sons, William McDevitt and his wife Patricia, Kevin McDevitt and his wife Nancy, and John McDevitt and his wife Patricia; two daughters, Mary Afflerback and her husband Gerald, and Kathleen Carr and her husband Stephen.  She was known as Nana to her grandchildren: Elizabeth, Maureen, Erin, Amy, Michael, Kerry, Brendan, Brian, Jerome, Reilly, William, James and her many great-grandchildren.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. on Monday at Saint Gregory the Great Church, 360 Cowesett Road, Warwick.  Visitation at the church will be held prior to the funeral mass beginning at 9:15. Masks are required. In her memory, please consider sending flowers to a loved one, hospice patient or nursing home.
