Terrence P. O'Brien Obituary

It is with sadness that the family of Terry O'Brien of Holyrood announces his death on Thursday, December 16th at 9:00 pm.  Terry, age 72, died unexpectedly and peacefully under the gentle care of the palliative care staff at Carbonear General Hospital after a recent cancer diagnosis.

He was predeceased by his parents Anne and Jim O'Brien, brother Brendan O'Brien, and nephew Sean O'Brien.

Terry spent most of his life in Holyrood after a move from Grand Falls in 1966. He liked his earlier work with construction crews on winter beautification projects in the Holyrood area. He especially enjoyed the camaraderie he experienced, complete with yarns, smokes and laughs, during a mug up around an outdoor fire.  Terry worked with his brother Bill at several camp jobs in northern Alberta, quickly being included as one of the crew. He felt most comfortable though in Newfoundland and returned to Holyrood after a couple of years.

He will be remembered for his quiet spirit. He never drove but covered many kilometers by foot, checking out Mom’s berry patches, and to where else we don't really know! He liked getting out around socially too, had a fondness for bingo or a game of cards, a story, and a Tim Hortons coffee.

Terry will be lovingly remembered and missed by daughter Lisa (Geoff) Waye, siblings; Beth (Ken) Schlender, Frank (Doris) O'Brien, Gerald (Florence) O'Brien, Bill (Adelheid) O'Brien and Mariana (Greg) Lambrecht, sister-in-law Dianne O'Brien, aunt Ellie Veitch, 12 nieces and nephews as well as a circle of other relatives and friends

We would like to thank his many relatives and friends in the community who lent Terry a hand over the years, a ride, a meal, a chat and a very special thank you to Aunt Ellie for her kindness and for consistently being there for him.

Cremation has taken place. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Holy Cross Catholic Church, Holyrood on Wednesday, June 15, 2022 at 10:30 am with interment to follow at Holy Cross Cemetery, Holyrood.
