Jim Jensen passed away in his home at Yakutat Alaska at 93 years of age. Jim was born in Ferron, Utah to James Jensen and Martha Carlock. Jim enlisted in the service with his mother’s permission at age 17 from 10/22/45 to 11/22/51. He served in the US Navy and the National Guard. He received honorable discharges for each of his service positions. Jim came to Alaska in 1951 and met Susie A. Foster in Kotzebue, Alaska. Jim and Susie birthed 15 children (10 boys and 5 girls) and grandfather to 30, great grandfather to 46. His siblings were Earlene Hall and Delores Hamilton. He was preceded in death by his parents, his sister Earlene, wife –Susie Jensen, his daughters Rosa, Linda, sons Tracy and Edwin, granddaughter Alaina and 2nd wife Judy Jensen. He worked for the Federal Aviation Administration from 1951 to 1984, where he received many commendations and awards for his outstanding service. He transferred to many villages and towns in Alaska serving as Chief of the Flight Service Station. He was honored by pilots in distress in which he saved many lives. His family moved every two years covering much of Alaska, and having his children born almost yearly along the way. Jim enjoyed fishing, hunting and watching his kids in sporting events, he coached the first men’s team from Yakutat to go to the Gold Medal Tournament and coached youth baseball. Jim and Susie owned and operated a local restaurant, “The Gossip Stop Café”. He was a member of the American Legion and Moose Lodge, participating in many patriotic events. Jim was well respected by many friends, families and will be remembered as an American Veteran dying on Pearl Harbor Day, 2021. He was a commercial fisherman from 1968 to 2012. He is survived by his sister Delores Hamilton, his children James Jensen Jr. (Paula) of Yakutat, AK., Coleman Jensen of Gresham, OR., Les Jensen (Bev) of Juneau, AK., Laurie Klotz (Knute) of Bow, N.H., Michael Jensen (Shari) of Yakutat, AK, Buz Jensen (Debi) of Gresham OR., Jennethan Kaufman (Steve) of Yakutat, AK., Jonathan Jensen (Rhoda) of Yakutat, AK.,, Betty Jensen (George) of Yakutat, AK., Bruce Jensen and Joseph Jensen (Beth) of Juneau, AK. Jim Jensen Sr. is survived by 22-Grandsons, 8-Grand Daughters, 20-Great Grandsons and 26-Great Granddaughters. Jim remarried to Judy Holdt in 2001 and resided in Yakutat. They had enjoyed being snow birds in Yuma Arizona until Judy passed away in 2013. The family will hold a private memorial honoring Jim and his ashes will be interned at a later date.
