<p>Gustavo Mellado, 69 of Chicago, passed away Saturday December 11, 2021, at his residence. Mark R. Peres, C.PP.S. of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Whiting, IN, officiating; visitation will be at the funeral home from 2:00pm to time of services. (Due to the current health situation, face masks must be worn and social distancing is expected). He was a longtime resident of the Calumet Region and was a graduate of Hammond Technical Vocational High School, Class of 1971. He attended the Calumet College of St. Joseph, East Chicago, IN, where he found a love for theatre. Gustavo was a professional actor, singer, and a member of Actor&rsquo;s Equity. He was known for his beautiful tenor voice. Early in his career he participated in theatrical productions with the Community Showcase Theatre and the Marian Theatre Guild of St. John Church, Whiting, IN. Professionally, he had key roles in several independent films and the TV series &ldquo;Prison Break,&rdquo; and won the 2004 Chicago Community Cinema Award for Best Supporting Actor for his role in &ldquo;King of the Tango.&rdquo; He participated in productions with Teatro Vista, Chicago, IL, Teatro Campesino, San Juan Batista, CA, San Jose Stage Company, San Jose, CA, The Western Stage, Salinas, CA, and many others.
