Mrs Pamela “Pam” King Hester, 68, of Winston Salem, NC, passed away at Trellis Supportive Care of Winston Salem Thursday, December 16, 2021.

 

Pam was born in Giddings, Texas May 1, 1953 to Charles Carol King (1927-1967) and Shirley Jean Schnell King (1931-1987. She is survived by five siblings: Charles Lee "Chuck" (and Lynette) King; Cheri Gisele Grimes; Melissa Kay King; Jacqueline "Jacque" Jean King; and Michele (and Gary) Richter.

Pam’s mother was her greatest influence in her becoming a missionary. She encouraged and gave Pam and her five siblings plenty of opportunities to serve in the church and be involved in mission work.

 

At 13 Pam felt called to be a Missionary (Nurse/Midwife). She was appointed by the Foreign Mission Board of the Southern Baptist Convention June 1981. She was commissioned to serve as a Nurse/Midwife and to reopen a Midwifery School at Sanyati Baptist Hospital in the bush country of Zimbabwe, Africa where she delivered over 5,000 babies from 1981-1986, Pam also attended two years of Language School learning, Shona.

 

Pam attended Baylor University of Waco, Texas, earning a BSN (Bachelor of Science in Nursing) in 1975, Harare School of Midwifery 1984, and earned her CNM (Certified Nurse Midwife) degree in 1994 at the Frontier School of Midwifery and Family Nursing.

 

She also attended Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Fort Worth, Texas, 1975-1977 and earned a (MREd) Master's of Religious Education degree. While studying nursing Pam worked at multiple triage hospitals in the Dallas area. In 1981, she moved to Brownwood, Texas and was active at Coggin Avenue Baptist Church.

 

Pam opened her own medical practice and ministry for women in Forest City, NC named Mountain Laurel Women’s Health Care where she focused on women’s health and hormone replacement from 1998-2012. She felt that serving women as a mid-level practitioner was an extension of her God given calling as a missionary. While practicing at Mountain Laurel she also studied at Healthcare Providers at Clayton College of Natural Health 2004-2009 where she achieved a Doctorate in Natural Healthcare Solutions for Women.

 

 

Pam’s greatest interest was serving her Lord Jesus Christ and her family.

On July 5,1986 she married Dennis James Hester, originally from Kernersville, NC. They were married in Brownwood, Texas at Coggin Avenue Baptist Church. Dennis was serving as pastor of Pioneer Baptist Church in Richmond, VA, when he and Pam first met. Rev. Hester now serves as Interim Pastor of Konnoak Baptist Church of Winston Salem.

 

Pam and Dennis were married for 35 years. They have two children Rachael “Ray Ray” Hester of Richmond, VA and Charles “Nathan” Hester (Candace) of Bessemer City and two grandchildren Carter and Becket.

 

We thank God for Pam’s love and service to our Lord Jesus Christ and for the many lives she has touched with love and compassion throughout her life and ministry. She will be dearly missed by Dennis, Nathan, Rachael and her family and many friends.

We also thank God for all of the doctors, nurses and health care workers who have provided Pam compassionate care during her illness of Multiple Sclerosis for the past 20 years.

A memorial service for Pam will be held at 1:00 pm on Saturday, December 18, 2021 at Union Cross Baptist Church.
