Robert David Quick

Robert David Quick was born December 24, 1933, to David Dewitt Quick and Charlotte Mae (Fawcett) Quick in a little house on Pine Street, in Newcastle, WY.  His brother, William Thomas Quick, was born in Newcastle on Feb 17, 1935.  His parents were divorced when he was eight years old.  Most of the time he lived with his grandparents, John and Carrie Fawcett.  He had many cousins and enjoyed spending time with them.  He graduated the 8^th grade in Newcastle, then received his GED through the Army while stationed in Germany for 18 months.  After graduating the 8^th grade, he was a surveyor one summer, then he went to work for Rob and Daisy Baldwin on the MW Ranch, where he worked until he was inducted into the Army in 1954.  On March 24, 1954, he was married to Rena Ruth (Minnie) Borgialli.  After he returned from Germany, he worked for Bob Rossman as an autobody man.  He returned to the MW Ranch is 1956. Their daughter, Julie Ann, was born December 1, 1956, in Newcastle.  She was ill and had to have surgery to repair an opening into her stomach at Rapid City, SD.  Their insurance wouldn’t pay for Julie’s hospital bill as they claimed it was a pre-existing condition.  Although he loved the ranch life and working for the Baldwin’s, he felt he had to get a better paying job to pay for the hospital bills.  Bob and Minnie moved to Newcastle where he went to work for Sapphire American, working on a drilling rig in the oil field. His back was broken when a set of gen poles on a winch truck flew around and hit him. He wore a cast for six months. They bought his dad’s house at 1000 Wood Street where they lived for almost 30 years.  David Joe Quick was born at Newcastle Hospital September 2, 1959 and Carol Dana Quick was born at the Newcastle Hospital June 12, 1961. He then worked for Kenneth Thompson Construction for several years.  They paved the avenues in Newcastle and Moorcroft and did a job at Hot Springs one summer.  Bob worked for Max Pollat for many years in the oil field and they became very good friends.  He also worked for Updike Bros. and he was Superintendent for Arnold Oil Co. until they went out of business.  He purchased a patrol from Cal Smith and started his own company, Bob’s Patrol Service, adding machinery as the years went on.  In 1968, he was in business with Ted and Dwight Elliott running a treater truck.  It wasn’t long before he went back in the dirt business.    Bob, Jack Campbell and Clarence Wolff started CamQuick Construction.  They worked one summer at Hulett, WY, building a road for the county. This didn’t pan out and Bob went back to running his own company, Bob’s Patrol Service until 1983 when he went to work for Weston County Road and Bridge as their road foreman, retiring in 1996. They then moved to their land at 134 Old HWY 85 South of Newcastle in 1984 after a heart surgery in St. Louis, MO., for Wolff, Parkinson, White.  Only one doctor in the US did Wolf White surgery at that time.  He enjoyed living in the country again and doing yard work. He spent hours hauling rocks and working in the yard.  Bob and Minnie spent many years as square dancers.  They still enjoy going to dances at the senior center.  He also enjoyed many years on a bowling team.  He was a member of the IOOF Lodge in Newcastle and the First United Methodist Church.  Bob helped with the Tool Pushing Cowpokes4-H Club for over 20 years. He is preceded in death by his parents, infant twins brother and sister, and another sister who died at birth. Bob leaves his wife Minnie; daughters Julie (Mark) Lopez of Arvada, CO, Carol Ertman of Stringtown, OK and son Dave Quick of Sturgis, SD; brother Billy Quick and Darlene DeFord of Newcastle; grandchildren Dusti Hooks of Gillette, Becky (Eric) Saunders of Gillette, Morgan (Travis) Fack of Sheridan, Lorena Rutledge of Billings, MT, Leo (Candice) Ertman of Tulsa, OK, Joey Ertman or Stringtown, OK and Tia (Skye) Womack of Calera, OK; great-grandchildren Connor and Hadley Hooks of Gillette, Garrett and Shelbi Saunders of Gillette, Alexes and Jace Ertman of Tulsa, OK, Anetra and Anwynn Fack of Sheridan, and Lydia and Vic Womack of Calera, OK; and many nephews, nieces and cousins.
