Harley Albert Woodward Obituary

Harley Albert “Pop” Woodward, 76, passed away peacefully in Salt Lake City, Utah, on December 8, 2021, after suffering a massive Covid-related stroke. We have lost a tender husband, a sweet father, a devoted Pop, a kind friend, and an all-around amazing man.

Harley was born in San Diego, California, to Harley C. and Janet M. (Gibson) Woodward on March 11, 1945, and was the oldest of three sons. He grew up in Sugarhouse, Utah, and graduated from Highland High School in 1964.

Harley served a full-time mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in the Argentina Buenos Aires Mission, and again accepted another call later in his life to be a service missionary with his wife, Judy, assisting people seeking employment in the Orem/Provo area.

After serving in the Army Reserves at Fort Douglas, Harley earned his pilot's license and enjoyed his time up in the air. He went to school at the University of Utah, studying Architectural Drafting, and he went on to become a Draftsman, eventually owning his own business in partnership with Judy called ‘HnJ Designs’. He enjoyed drawing up house plans for people who were eager to build their dream homes or for those who were anxious to renovate their current home.

After meeting online, Harley and Judy met face-to-face for their very first date on June 30th, 2006, but it went so long into the next morning that they call it meeting on June 31st. They saw each other every single day until they got married. He'd stay late each visit, but when it was time to leave, he would keep his phone on and Judy would read the scriptures to him on his way home so he wouldn't fall asleep. We told them that if their marriage was meant to be, then there was no need to prolong an engagement. They took our counsel to heart and got married 10 weeks later on September 13, 2006, in Orem, Utah. They were sealed for time and all eternity on April 17, 2010, in the Mount Timpanogos Temple in American Fork, Utah.

Harley loved to serve his friends and neighbors, but especially his family. His ability to fix anything was one of his superpowers. His love of creating came through in his work, in his music, and in his art. From gardening, to painting murals, lettering windows, sketching a portrait of a child, playing guitar and singing along with the Old-Time Fiddlers…it was fun, and wonderful, and special.

His hobbies were simple: telling Pop jokes, snapping pictures at the family gatherings, driving EVERYwhere, going on cruises and spending time at Disneyland, riding his bike, shopping at Home Depot and Smith’s, getting his daily Cherry Coke at Will’s Pit Stop, and walking the Provo Temple grounds often to contemplate, study, and pray.

Harley is preceded in death by his parents Harley C. and Janet M. (Gibson) Woodward, and his grandson, Brigham H. Woodward. He is survived by his wife, Judy, who was the love of his life. He is also survived by his children Chris (Jonna) Woodward, Tiffani (Steve) Brush, Jacqueline (Jeff) Newell, Mike (Annie) Woodward, Jeanni (Jeremy) Debry, Christy (Jim) Giles, Jennifer (Bronc) Walker, and Michael Jensen, plus his 23 grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, and his two brothers Brent (Michele) Woodward and Kim Woodward. He is also survived by Cathren S. Warner and Jacquelyn E. Graf.
