<p>Kenneth Floyd Mills, Sr went to be with the Lord on December 11, 2021 after a brief battle with cancer. He was eighty-three years young.</p> <p>He was born in Quitman, Arkansas to Joseph and Thelma Mills, the seventh of nine children. After highschool he attended Arkansas State Teachers College (now known as University of Central Arkansas) in Conway and was a standout track star. He was part of the relay team and still holds the school record in the 400 relay and he boasted his time of 0:49 for the 400 yd dash.</p> <p>Kenneth served in the Army National Guard of Arkansas from 1956 to 1964. He was honorably discharged as SP4 E4 having received honors for being an excellent marksman and expert in the auto pistol.</p> <p>Kenneth met and married Kathryn Kennett in 1961. In 1964 Ken started working for the Chevy V8 Engine plant and they moved to Flint, Michigan where they lived and raised their family of six children. They divorced in 1998.</p> <p>After Ken retired from General Motors, he met Janice (McCormick) Proffitt in July 1999. They were married in February 2000. Even though they were only married twenty-one years, they had a lifetime of happiness. They loved to travel and listen to Bluegrass music. Some of their favorite trips included Cancun, Niagara Falls, and Texas. And you could often find them catching the Porter Wagoner show.</p> <p>A student of scripture, Ken was a Sunday School teacher and always involved with his congregations. At eighty years young he even worked on the set of a community Vacation Bible School held by the local churches in Tompkinsville. Ken had a lifelong faith that Jesus Christ is the son of God and showed the love of Jesus to those he met. He is in the arms of our Heavenly Father now.</p> <p>Ken was preceded in death by his parents, his siblings: Edward Mills, Marie Curd, Herald Mills, William Mills; former wife Kathryn Mills.</p> <p>Kenneth is survived by his beloved wife, Janice; his children: Janice (Wayland) Lively of Iowa, Kim (Tim) McIntosh of Michigan, Jo Ellen (David) Laansma of Colorado, Kenneth Mills, Jr. of Michigan, Jennifer (Howard) Witham of Michigan, and Jonathon (Taylor) Mills of Michigan; fifteen grandchildren, nineteen great-grandchildren; his siblings: Hubert Fred Mills of Texas, Faber (Shirley) Mills of Arkansas, Russell (Pat) of Arkansas and Floyma Sutterfield of Arizona; many nieces, nephews and cousins.</p> <p>&nbsp;</p> <p>Respectfully we ask visitors to wear masks at the visitation and the funeral.</p> <p>Visitation on December 13, 2021 4pm to 8pm at the Yokley-Trible Funeral Home.</p> <p>Service on Tuesday, December 14, 2021 at 11am at Yokley Trible Funeral Home.</p> <p>Interment at Bethlehem Cemetery in Mud Lick, with military services preformed by Glasgow DAV chapter 20.</p> <p>In lieu of flowers donations in Ken&rsquo;s memory may be made to the Humane Society.</p>
