On December 3, 2021, Moises Avila passed away peacefully at the age of 83 surrounded by his loving family. He is survived by his loving wife of 57 years Teresa, his daughters Cristina Avila and Claudia Patricia Ruiz, his son-in-law Adolfo and his grandchildren Andrea Ruiz, Daniel Ruiz and Marcela Ruiz. Moises was preceded in death by his son John.
Born and raised in Bogota, Colombia, he began his career there as a skilled cabinetmaker where he co-owned a successful carpentry business. With the prospect of new and better opportunities for his family and career, he then moved to the United States in 1968. His wife and daughters joined him a year later. He lived in New Jersey for 8 years, during which his son John was born. In 1977, he and his family then relocated to Northern Virginia, where he started a new position as a cabinetmaker at Polinger Shannon & Luchs in Washington, D.C. He then retired after achieving a successful 25 years with the company. Moises’ passion for carpentry continued after retirement, where he used his expertise and refined skills to help family and friends with various home improvement projects.
Moises will be remembered for his kindness and generosity, which was shared with everyone he met. Along with his witty sense of humor he would never fail to make others laugh. He enjoyed playing golf in his spare time and spending time with family. He practiced his Colombian roots and his Catholic faith, as he took pride in being both a native Colombian and U.S. citizen. His love and commitment for his family never went unnoticed.
