<p>Joan Gooding Peele, 73, of Pikeville went to her heavenly home Sunday, December 5, 2021 at New Hanover Regional Hospital in Wilmington.</p> <p> </p> <p>A graveside service will be held Thursday, December 9, 2021 at 2 p.m. at Elmwood Cemetery in Fremont. The family will greet friends following the service.</p> <p> </p> <p>Mrs. Peele was born in Wayne County on April 9, 1948 to the late Coloniel David and Ellen Marie Jernigan Gooding. She was a member of Belfast Pentecostal Holiness Church where she served as past president of the ladies auxiliary. </p> <p> </p> <p>She is survived by her son, James Willis Peele II and wife, Christy of Pikeville; one brother, Lavern Gooding and wife, Billie of Pikeville; two sisters, Jan Sykes of Kenly and Sharon Person and husband, Harold of Pikeville and a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.</p> <p> </p> <p>In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James Willis Peele.</p> <p> </p> <p>The family is in the care of Howell Funeral Home & Crematory in Goldsboro</p>Obituary
