Philip Joseph Ortiz, age 50, left this world to be one with the force on November 26th, 2021. The blessing of his life began on October 9, 1971 as the first son born to Maria Lozano and the first grandchild of long-standing Lincoln Heights residents, Ramon and Laura Ortiz. He grew up much loved in California alongside his two younger siblings, Celeste and Armando, and developed a true talent for drawing inspired by his passion and admiration of science fiction and comics. Having a real appreciation for visual storytelling, he earned a Bachelor’s degree in Cinema and Television Arts from California State University, Northridge (CSUN). In 2007, he was ready for a new chapter and moved to Las Cruces, New Mexico which would eventually become his final home. Born into a large Hispanic family, Philip was not the loudest voice in the room but instead radiated a calm presence. He was extremely intelligent and introspective, but always humble – a reminder to those around him that the gifts we are given are best used with a pure heart. His love for everything in the vastness of outer space and multi-dimensional tales will be greatly missed by everyone who knew him, as he had an infectious way of helping people see beyond what was simply in front of us. He was a visionary and took everyone along for the journey…in the words of Smashing Pumpkins, one of his favorite bands, “And for a moment I lose myself, wrapped up in the pleasures of the world, I’ve journeyed here and there and back again, but in the same old haunts, I still find my friends.” Philip was an unwaveringly devoted father and leaves behind his greatest treasure, his daughter Alannah Rose. He will also be forever remembered as an ever-loving son, irreplaceable brother, extraordinary grandson, beloved uncle, exceptional cousin, and beautiful friend. The universe was more brilliant because he was here, and we will miss him immensely. The family asks that you please celebrate his life by taking a moment to look up at the stars.
