Obituary

Barbara Nordby left this earth December 3, 2021 leaving behind a strong and loving family she  nurtured and guided throughout her long and fruitful life.  She was born to Harrison and Inez Miller in Tucumcari, New Mexico on September 19, 1944 and grew up there with her brother Wayne and sister Helen.  She was hard working, positive and energetic from the start and after finishing high school in Tucumcari started college at Eastern New Mexico University in Portales, New Mexico where she met her future husband Jim Nordby on a blind date when he was stationed at nearby Cannon AFB..

The two were married March 21, 1964 and embarked on life's adventure together, first leaving the Air Force and moving to Lake Stevens, Washington in 1965 with their infant son Jim Jr.  Within a year Jim Sr., because of his Air Force specialty, got an offer to become an Astronaut Rescue Specialist in the altitude chambers testing the Apollo Command and Lunar modules at Kennedy Space Center so off they went leaving the temperate great northwest for the subtropical southeast.

Barbara settled into raising her family and enjoying the adventure and friendships of an insider on the greatest technological feat ever attempted.  Her honesty, compassion and good humor earned her lifelong friends and admirers and before long son Randy, born in 1967, and daughter Jennifer, 1972, joined the family where they settled in to life on Argyle Road in Titusville.

Barbara became the Cool Mom of the block where kids could hang out and feel comfortable being themselves.  Her pleasantness and positive attitude earned her deep and lasting friendships from workmates and neighbors alike.  She was driven to provide for family before any personal considerations and managed to get an AA from Brevard Community College and a BS in management from Nova Southeastern all while raising three kids, often by herself when Jim was on the road, and holding jobs her latest being a Financial Administrator for The Great Outdoors Resort in Titusville.

She was a hands-on mom who did her share of little league, scouts, softball and whatever her kids were into and continued that role as Grandmother to Hannah, Ashley, Jenna, Ava and Sal, her five beloved granddaughters and for Great Grandson Emmitt,

In addition to her grandchildren she is survived by husband Jim Nordby, Sr., son Jim Nordby, Jr. and his wife Becky, son Randy and his wife Krista and Daughter Jennifer and her husband Andrew Stevenson.  She will be sorely missed by all who knew and loved her.

Barbara's life will be celebrated at 3 pm Saturday, December 18, 2021 at North Brevard Funeral Home in Titusville, Florida.
