Our beloved Trina Yvonne Knox, the oldest of five children, was born to Mary Alice (Crayton) Burton and the late Samuel J. Knox, Jr., and departed to her eternal rest on July 28, 2017. Trina loved life, she truly loved her family and adored her many close friends. She leaves to cherish her memory one son, Terence B. Knox (Missy); four grandchildren: Tristian, Teriana, Taija and Treyvion Knox. She is also survived by her mother, Mary Alice (Crayton) Burton; three brothers: Julius R. Knox (Edna), Eric P. Knox and Ben Thompson (Daniel); and one sister, Inell Knox, all of Austin, TX. Her father, Samuel Knox, Jr., stepfather, Rev. Robert E. Burton, Sr., and her grandparents, Stella Crayton (maternal) and Ruth Knox (paternal) all proceeded her in death. She also leaves behind four step sisters and one step brother, many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and her wonderful church family at Unity Hill Baptist Church. The church’s pastor, her uncle, Reverend Arvy Crayton, always lifted her up and helped her find peace in her final hours. Trina was a product of the old Anderson High School on Thompson Street due to busing out of the neighborhood to integrate Austin public schools in the 1970’s. She later attended Austin Community College where she obtained her Drug & Alcohol Abuse counseling license. She was a counselor for many years doing what she loved, helping others. Trina’s own struggles in her early life gave her a level of compassion and unique insight that helped scores of people in recovery. Trina was always willing to travel near or far to speak with organizations, church groups, congregations and even council members to educate them on the challenges of drug addiction. Trina was the Co-founder and Executive Director of Winner’s House, a non-profit organization that managed several transitional housing facilities for recovering drug addicts and former inmates of local jails and Texas Department of Corrections. She relished helping many of them successfully live clean and sober and become contributing members of their communities. Trina received dozens of awards and acknowledgments from various organizations for her outstanding efforts to make a difference in the lives of those who were often forgotten by society. Trina would frequently take her consumers, friends, and even total strangers to church to help them on their path to a better life. When her health began to severely fail a few months ago, Trina said: “My work here on earth is done; God kept me here for 61 years to do what He wanted me to do; I am blessed.” Trina was baptized at an early age and then began her own spiritual journey. She was a member of Loyalty Baptist Church under Reverend E. B. Brown, Sr. and then joined Greater Mt. Zion Baptist Church, Reverend Gaylon Clark, Pastor. In the past several years, she has been a much-loved member of Unity Hill Baptist Church, Reverend Arvy Crayton, Pastor. We will always remember and miss our dear daughter, sister and friend – we know that God loves her even more and ended her pain and suffering according to His plan. When she first became ill, she told us that God had given her a glimpse of a beautiful garden, where everything was beautiful and peaceful as it would be when she got to Heaven. May she rest in peace forever under God’s eternal care.
