Irene Wresche Obituary

Irene Hopkins Wresche was born December 27, 1928, to Earl and Effie Hopkins in Lincoln County, Oklahoma near Chandler, Oklahoma. She passed away December 4, 2021, in Sapulpa, Oklahoma in the home of Ron and Marla Wresche. She was 92 years, 11 months, and 7 days old.

She was preceded in death by her husband of almost 56 years, Roy Wresche; a son, Gary Wresche; three sisters, Lucretia Hopkins, Beatrice Ward and Evelene King; and her parents.

She is survived by son, Ron Wresche and wife Marla, son, Kelly Wresche and wife Lynn, grandson, Christopher Wresche and wife Skylar, granddaughter, Adrian McGowan and husband Trevor, grandson, Grant Wresche and wife Chelsey, granddaughter, Allison Korvick and husband Philip; seven great grandchildren; and one sister, Earlene Nicholson. 

Irene grew up in and around Chandler, Oklahoma but attended Cushing High School her freshman year while her dad worked in the Cushing Oil Refinery. The family moved back to Chandler after her dad went to work in Oklahoma City. She graduated from Chandler High School in 1946.

After graduating from high school in 1946 she went to Cozins Secretarial School in Dallas, Texas where she graduated in 1950.

On March 5, 1954, she married Roy Lee Wresche of Sapulpa, Oklahoma. After the wedding they moved to Mountain Home, Idaho where her new husband Roy was stationed in the Air Force.

She held several secretarial positions for various lawyers, Lon T. Jackson, Nazarene Church secretary where she was a long time member and The Department of Human Services where she retired after 25 years of service.

She was also involved in several civic activities one of which was the "Sparklers", which was the Sapulpa Fire Departments Women’s Auxiliary.

After retirement she and her husband, Roy, became members of the National Buick Club and enjoyed going on road trips, Buick tours and meets across the country.

She enjoyed going shopping, going home with what she had just bought and then deciding she didn’t like it after all and decide to return it.

She spent time with her "20-20" friends, shopping, eating out, going to the Sapulpa Community Theater and different parties depending on the season and time of the year.

Irene lived a long and full life and was well liked and loved by her family and those who knew her. She will be missed.

There will be a public viewing Thursday, December 9th at Smith Funeral Home from 3:00 to 7:00 p.m. Her home going service will be Friday, December 10th at 2:00 p.m. at The Sapulpa Church of the Nazarene.  Interment will follow at Green Hill Cemetery
